Cloud-computing is the use of computing resources that are delivered over the internet. The technology has been penetrating economic and social fields accross the globe. Chinese IT companies hope to seize the opportunity to become world leading cloud service providers.

The calculation and processing is done over the internet, and you receive the result. That’s the idea of cloud computing.

A forum in Beijing, held on Wednesday, has brought China’s IT elites together, to discuss how cloud technology has changed or will change people’s daily lives.

The platform is developing. The infra-structure is being built. The next big question is how to use the tool.

Professor Viktor Mayor-Schonberger, Oxford University, said, “Every single industry that you can think of, health, education, manufacturing, marketing. Everything will be transfered by data, transfered from a classic, conventional business to a data business.”

According to industrial analysis, global cloud market expects to reach a total value of over 70 billion US dollors by 2015. And it has also provided a chance for Chinese players.

Wang Chao, VP of Cloud Valley, Beijing, said, “Within the traditional PC sector, Chinese companies lack core technologies. So we are manufacturers rather than inventors. But the rise of cloud technology has provided us an opportunity to change our position from followers to industrial leaders.”

During the forum, Chinese developers also laid down the blueprint to connect cloud industries in Beijing and Silicon Valley through bilateral dialogue, cooperation and exchange, and build “two cities in a cloud computing era”.
